Technical & Price Action

Stocks Down 20-50% from 52-Week High

Stocks Down 20-50% from 52-Week High is a Technical & Price Action screen. It checks every NSE-listed stock against 1 condition computed from nightly data, after excluding heavily pledged promoters and very small market caps. This page explains the rule, each figure and its source. It lists no stocks and is not advice.

What it does and why

A correction from the 52-week high is a price observation with no inherent judgement about whether the correction is justified. When a fundamentally sound business has corrected 20-50% from its yearly peak — whether due to market-wide selling, sector rotation, or temporary earnings disappointment — it may represent a better-risk entry point than it did at the top. This screener makes no prediction and carries no buy signal by itself: it surfaces stocks where the price has corrected significantly, so that further fundamental analysis can determine whether the correction is an opportunity or a warning. The challenge — always — is distinguishing temporary price weakness from permanent business deterioration.

What each figure means

Discount from 52-Week High (%)

The percentage by which the current price is below the 52-week high. A value of -30 means the stock is 30% below its yearly peak.

Low is better

52-Week High (₹)

The highest closing price achieved in the past 52 weeks (one year of trading). This is the reference point for measuring the correction.

A higher 52-week high relative to the current price tells you the magnitude of upside if the stock were to fully recover. It also tells you how many prior buyers are currently sitting at a loss and may sell on any recovery.

High is better

What the harness measured

AI-generated plain-language explanation

In the past data we checked, we could not tell the stocks this screen picked apart from the ones it left out. We looked back over 64 months. Each month we checked whether the stocks this screen picked did better, over the following month (21 trading days), than the stocks it didn't pick. We score that from -1 (the picks always did worse) to +1 (always did better); 0 means no pattern. This screen scored -0.0031. As a measurement, the score is essentially zero. If the screen had no real edge, a score at least this far from zero would show up about 54 in 100 by luck alone. That does not mean the screen is wrong; it still works for narrowing a list of stocks by your own rules. This is a record of the past, not a prediction.
